Duplissie throws seven strong
innings, drives in three with two doubles and a triple
BROCKTON, Mass. (April 26,
2005) - Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 29 for the
third-straight week in Collegiate Baseball magazine's
Division II poll, pounded out 14 hits, including six for
extra-bases, in posting a 10-2 victory over Stonehill College in
Northeast-10 Conference baseball action at Campanelli Stadium
tonight.
Junior right-hander
Bryan Duplissie (East Swanzey, N.H./Monadnock
Regional) threw seven strong innings and also led the
offensive attack for Franklin Pierce. He improved to 5-0 on the
mound, allowing just the two earned runs on four hits with ten
strikeouts and four walks. Duplissie was 3-for-5 at the plate with
two doubles, a triple and three RBI.
Junior Shawn Hayes
(Charlton, Mass./Holy Name) extended his hitting
streak to 14 games, finishing 3-5 with a double, triple, three RBI
and three runs scored. Sophomore Kim Hart (Gorham,
Maine/Gorham) also hit 3-5 with a double and two RBI,
while junior Mike Chambers (Londonderry,
N.H./Londonderry) was
2-5.
Sophomore Adam Pardo
(Hanover, Mass./Hanover) was 2-3 with a double for
Stonehill, while junior Coley Lyons (West Roxbury,
Mass./Catholic Memorial) finished 2-4 with a double.
Senior Tim Flynn (Clifton Park,
N.Y./Shenendehowa) was 1-3 with an RBI.
Senior left-hander
Billy McLane (Plymouth, N.H./Plymouth)
took the loss for the Chieftains as he was touched for seven earned
runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and a walk in five innings.
Franklin Pierce jumped ahead with
three runs in the first, marking the 16th time this
season the Ravens have struck in their first at bat (12-3 record).
Sophomore Vinny Pennell (Spencer, Mass./David
Prouty) was hit by a pitch, followed by a Chambers
single before Hayes cleared the bases with a triple to left center.
Hayes scored on a Hart double to right center. The Ravens added a
single run in the third when Hayes singled and scored on a
Duplissie double off the base of the wall in
left.
Duplissie held Stonehill hitless
and faced the minimum until the fourth when it struck for a pair of
runs. Audette drew a leadoff walk, before Lawrence broke up the
no-hitter with a single up the middle. Audette scored on a Flynn
ground out with the bases loaded and Lawrence scored on a Halloran
ground out.
Franklin Pierce answered with three
in the fifth to open a five-run lead. Chambers and Hayes led off
with singles and scored on a Duplissie double off the wall in left
center. Duplissie scored on a sacrifice fly from junior
Mike Feetham (Quincy, Mass./North
Quincy).
The Ravens broke the game open with
two in the seventh and single run in the eighth. Duplissie tripled
to left-center and scored on a Hart single, who later scored on a
sac fly from junior Randy Fenton (Worcester,
Mass./Doherty). Hayes drove in Pennell, who reached
with a leadoff walk, with a ground ball to second.
Franklin Pierce (21-9, 15-6 NE-10)
and Stonehill (18-13, 11-8 NE-10) continue their two-game midweek
series on Thursday at Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field at 3:30
p.m.
