Duplissie solid in complete-game effort, Shea drives in
three
RINDGE, N.H. (April 15,
2005) - Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 29 in this week's
Collegiate Baseball magazine Division II poll, cruised to
an 8-1 victory over Southern New Hampshire University in
Northeast-10 Conference baseball action at Dr. Arthur and Martha
Pappas Field this afternoon.
Junior right-hander
Bryan Duplissie (East Swanzey, N.H./Monadnock
Regional) allowed just the one earned run and
scattered five hits and three walks with a season-high 11
strikeouts in his first complete game of the season to earn his
third win of the season (3-0). The one earned run was the first of
the season against him as the Penmen's run in the top of the
seventh stopped a streak of 23.1 innings without yielding an earned
run to start the year.
Junior centerfielder
Elliott Shea (Jaffrey, N.H./Conant) led
the offense, as he was 3-for-4 with a stolen base and three RBI.
Classmate Randy Fenton (Worcester,
Mass./Doherty) was 2-4 with two RBI and a stolen
base, while freshman Matt Anderson (Medford,
Mass./Medford) was 2-3 with a double and RBI.
Sophomore Garrett Olson
(Norway, Maine/Oxford Hills) finished 3-5 with three
runs scored and three steals to extend his team-leading hitting
streak to 18 games. Junior Mike Chambers (Londonderry,
N.H./Londonderry), who had a program single-season
record 19 game hitting streak halted yesterday, returned to form
with two hits, including a double, and an RBI.
Senior Ray Powers
(Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) was the lone Southern New
Hampshire batter with multiple hits as he was 2-4 with a double and
run scored. Freshman Jessie Goodrich (Canton,
Mass./Canton) finished 1-3 and sophomore
Kyle Bousquet (East Longmeadow, Mass./East
Longmeadow) registered an
RBI.
Franklin Pierce scored in the first
inning for the fourth-straight game and 13th time
overall (10-3 record) this season. Olson led off with a single down
the leftfield line and scored on Chambers double also down the line
in left. The Ravens added two more in the second as junior
Mike Feetham (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy)
singled in sophomore Vinny Pennell (Spencer,
Mass./David Prouty), who led off with a triple. Shea
drove in Feetham with a single up the middle.
After the Ravens added another run
in the fifth on a Shea single up the middle, Southern New Hampshire
broke through with a run in the seventh. Powers led off with a
double and scored when Bousquet reached on a fielder's choice.
Franklin Pierce answered with a run
in the home half on Shea's third RBI single of the day, then broke
the game open with three in the eighth. Anderson registered an RBI
double and Fenton followed with a two-run single to right.
