Borowski, Brouillard throw combined shutout
SMITHFIELD, R.I. (April 3,
2004) - Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 8 in this week's
National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division
II Northeast Region poll, earned a 2-0 shutout victory over Bryant
(ranked No. 10 in the NCBWA DII National poll, No. 1 in the
Northeast) in Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon
at the Bryant Baseball Complex.
The Ravens scored the only runs of
the game in the top of the second inning as junior Eric
Cavers (Otisfield, Maine/Oxford Hills) drove in
Freshman Kim Hart (Gorham, Maine/Gorham)
from second base with an RBI-single. Franklin Pierce brought in its
second run on a double-steal play that sent Cavers to second while
freshman Vinny Pennell (Spencer, Mass./David
Prouty) stole
home.
Junior Bryan Borowski
(Clarksburg, Mass./Drury) held the Bulldogs scoreless
through seven innings of work, allowing six hits with two walks and
six strikeouts to improve to 3-2 on the season. Junior right-hander
Keith Brouillard (Westport,
Mass./Somerset) pitched two scoreless innings and
allowed one hit with one strikeout and picked up his first save of
the year.
Franklin Pierce (10-14, 5-2 NE-10)
will return to action on Thursday when it travels to Bentley for a
Conference game at 3:30 p.m.
