Ravens score eight runs late in
12-4 victory over American International
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March
28, 2004) -Franklin Pierce, ranked ninth in this week's
National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division
II Northeast Region poll, posted a 12-4 decision over American
International College to complete the sweep of a three-game weekend
series at AIC Park this afternoon.
Franklin Pierce took advantage of
seven American International errors and scored eight runs over the
final four innings to break open a 4-1 contest. Freshman
right-hander Daniel Fournier (Worcester, Mass./Holy
Name) picked up his third win of the season (3-1)
with a solid performance on the mound. He allowed just an unearned
run on two hits with six strikeouts, but walked six, in six innings
of work.
Sophomore Elliott Shea
(Jaffrey, N.H./Conant) paced the Franklin Pierce
offense as he hit 3-for-5 with an RBI, two runs scored and three
stolen bases. Senior Dante Blancarte (South Berwick,
Maine/Amesbury (Mass.)) hit 2-5 with a double and two
RBI, while freshman Vinny Pennell (Spencer, Mass./David
Prouty) finished 2-3 with a walk, three runs scored
and two steals.
Franklin Pierce (8-12, 3-0 NE-10)
returns to action tomorrow for a key Northeast-10 doubleheader at
No. 24 Southern Connecticut State University beginning at 1 p.m.
American International (2-12, 1-4 NE-10) hosts the University of
Bridgeport on Monday at 3 p.m.
