Norway, Maine, native honored for
second time this season
RINDGE, N.H. (March 29,
2004) - Franklin Pierce third baseman Garrett
Olson (Norway, Maine/Oxford Hills) earned Freshman of
the Week honors by the Northeast-10 Conference office this
afternoon.
Olson, honored as NE-10 Freshman of
the Week for the second time this season, helped lead Franklin
Pierce to a weekend sweep of American International College in its
lone action of the week. Olson hit .444 (4-for-9) in the three game
series with two runs scored, a double, two RBI and two stolen
bases. He also slugged .556, registered a .545 on-base percentage
and was error free on nine chances at third base.
Olson hit 2-for-4 with a double,
run scored and RBI in the Ravens 9-1 win over AIC in game two of
Saturday's doubleheader. In Sunday's 12-4 win, he finished 1-3 with
an RBI.
Olson currently ranks second on the
team with a .397 (25-63) batting average (7th NE-10)
while starting all 20 games at third base for Franklin Pierce. He
has totaled 15 runs scored, two doubles, a home run, 11 RBI and
five stolen bases (five attempts). Olson ranks second on the team
with eight multi-hit games and he ended the week riding a team-best
five-game hitting streak.
Franklin Pierce (8-12, 3-0 NE-10),
ranked eighth in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers
Association (NCBWA) Division II Northeast Region poll, is in action
this afternoon at Southern Connecticut State University, ranked
second in the region, for a doubleheader that started at 1 p.m. The
Ravens are slated to open their home schedule on Thursday with a
doubleheader against Merrimack College at 2 p.m.
