WINCHENDON, Mass. - The Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team opened its 2026-27 season on Friday afternoon, falling to Union College, 4-3, in overtime. Three different Ravens scored in the contest, while Rylee Eno made 36 saves between the pipes.
With the loss, Franklin Pierce opens the season at 0-1-0, while Union improves to 1-0-0.
After falling behind midway through the opening period, Mia Kraut evened the score at the 14:09 mark with her first goal of the season, assisted by Brynn Levinson.
The Ravens grabbed their first lead of the afternoon just over six minutes into the second period when Caleigh Murphy found the back of the net off an assist from Melanie Targosz. Following a Union equalizer, Anastasia Witmer capitalized on a power-play opportunity with 1:39 remaining in the period, scoring off assists from Targosz and Emma Laroche to give Franklin Pierce a 3-2 advantage.
Union tied the contest on the power play midway through the third period, sending the game into overtime. The Ravens were unable to capitalize on a power play that carried into the extra period, eventually surrendering the game-winning goal at the 2:58 mark.
Eno finished the afternoon with 36 saves, while Murphy led the Ravens with six shots on goal. Targosz recorded a pair of assists, and Witmer won 12 of her 18 faceoffs.
Franklin Pierce returns to action on Saturday, September 26, when the Ravens host Union College at 2:30 p.m. in Keene, N.H.
