ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Franklin Pierce University women's volleyball team fell in straight sets to Saint Leo University and Eckerd College on Friday during the opening day of the Triton Invite.
With the two losses, the Ravens move to 3-6 overall.
GAME ONE: Saint Leo 3, Franklin Pierce 0
Franklin Pierce opened the tournament with a 25-17, 25-14, 26-24 loss to Saint Leo.
Maddie Swanson led the Ravens with eight kills, adding eight digs, while
Adrianna Reay added seven kills and six digs. Marija Milosevic finished with five kills, five service aces and two blocks.
Giuliana Pamatat handed out 22 assists, while
Brook Barkley led the defensive effort with 14 digs.
After dropping the first two sets, Franklin Pierce battled Saint Leo throughout the third. The set featured four ties and two lead changes before the Lions escaped with a 26-24 victory to complete the sweep.
GAME TWO: Eckerd 3, Franklin Pierce 0
The Ravens closed the day with a 25-20, 25-20, 25-16 loss to tournament host Eckerd.
Swanson recorded a team-high eight kills, 17 digs, two service aces and two blocks. Reay added seven kills and nine digs, while Pamatat finished with 17 assists and 11 digs.
Franklin Pierce remained within striking distance through each of the opening two sets before Eckerd pulled away late. The Tritons carried the momentum into the third set to secure the victory.
The Ravens return to action on Saturday, September 12, for two more matches at the Triton Invite. Franklin Pierce faces Georgia College at 10 a.m. before concluding the tournament against Henderson State University at 4:45 p.m.
