CLARION, Pa. - The Franklin Pierce University volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday to conclude the Tony Banner Memorial Tournament, falling to Shippensburg University in straight sets before defeating Daemen University in a five-set battle.
With the split, Franklin Pierce moves to 1-3 on the season.
Shippensburg 3, Franklin Pierce 0
The Ravens opened the day with a 3-0 loss to Shippensburg, falling by scores of 25-19, 25-12 and 25-20.
Maddie Swanson led Franklin Pierce with 12 kills, while
Isabella Fetui added five. Marija Miloševic recorded four service aces, and
Grace Miller finished with four blocks.
Giuliana Pamatat distributed 21 assists, while
Brook Barkley led the defensive effort with 16 digs.
Adrianna Reay added 11 digs in the loss.
Franklin Pierce 3, Daemen 2
Franklin Pierce bounced back in the second match, outlasting Daemen in five sets to secure its first victory of the season.
The Ravens controlled the opening set, earning a 25-16 victory before taking a tightly contested second set, 25-23. Daemen responded with a 25-17 win in the third and forced a deciding set by edging Franklin Pierce, 27-25, in the fourth.
In the fifth, the Ravens regained control and closed out the match with a 15-11 victory.
Swanson led Franklin Pierce with 15 kills and 20 digs, while Reay recorded 10 kills and 16 digs. Miller added nine kills and three blocks.
Miloševic finished with five service aces and five blocks, while Pamatat directed the offense with 34 assists and added 19 digs. Franklin Pierce totaled 87 digs and 11 service aces in the victory.
Women's volleyball next competes in the SCSU Tri-Match on Saturday, September 5, with matches against Queens College and Southern Connecticut State University at 12 and 2 p.m.
