Ravens Edge Saint Michael’s, 4-3, in NE10 Road Match

COLCHESTER, Vt. (4/9/26) - The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team picked up a key Northeast 10 Conference victory on Thursday evening, edging Saint Michael's by a 4-3 final at the Tarrant Recreation Center.

With the win, the Ravens improved to 5-10 overall and 5-4 in NE10 play.

Franklin Pierce got off to a strong start by sweeping all three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead. The top-flight tandem of Ainhoa Ordonez (Barcelona, Spain) and Gabriela Yamate (Sao Paulo, Brazil) earned a 6-4 win, while Ines Gabarro (Barcelona, Spain) and Candela Tortosa (Valencia, Spain) cruised to a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles. Sara Gonzalez (Bogota, Columbia) and Ana Munoz (Anzoategui, Venezuela) rounded out the sweep with a 6-3 decision in the third spot.

In singles play, the Ravens needed three wins to clinch the match and got them from Ordonez, Tortosa and Munoz. Ordonez turned in a strong showing at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-4 win, while Munoz was dominant in the sixth position, blanking her opponent 6-0, 6-0.

The deciding point came at No. 5 singles, where Tortosa battled to a 7-5, 6-2 victory to secure the match for Franklin Pierce.

Saint Michael's claimed wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 singles, but the Ravens' early doubles sweep proved to be the difference in the tightly-contested conference matchup.

Franklin Pierce returns to action on Saturday, April 11, with a 1:00 p.m. match at Assumption.
