HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the opening minutes of the first period, Bo Dean (Toronto, Ontario) took the lead for the Ravens. With two seconds left in a powerplay opportunity, Caleigh Murphy (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) would find Hailey Anderson (Greer, S.C.) behind the net, who slipped the puck through traffic to the stick of Dean, finding the opening past Kayla Czukoski.
  • In the second period, both teams would increase their offensive opportunities. Each team would see two power plays, but neither could capitalize, entering the third period with the Ravens still leading the Hawks.
  • With time dwindling down for the Hawks, they made 15 shots on Jill Hertl (Highland Park, Ill.), however they were unable to fire one past her.
  • To secure the championship for the Ravens, Avery Wilson would attempt to send the puck down the neutral zone before being stopped by Maggie Korneta (Naperville, Ill.), who would send the puck down the ice where Abigail Broz (White Bear Lake, Minn.) would go on the breakaway and bury the puck into the net.
  • Despite some final chances from the Hawks, they were unable to produce any offense, handing the Ravens the NEWHA Championship Title.
  • At the conclusion of the game, Broz, Murphy, and Korneta join Hertl on the NEWHA All-Tournament Team, while Hertl was named Most Outstanding Player for stopping all 41 shots from the Hawks.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS

  • Brynn Levinson (Glencoe, Ill.) led the team with six shots.
  • This win marks Hertl's 19th shutout of her career.
  • The Hawks outshot the Ravens 41 to 37.
