HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the first period, both teams aren't able to capitalize on chances, with Stonehill's Eve Stone and Pierce's Jill Hertl (Highland Park, Ill.) making incredible stops to keep the game level.
  • With the Ravens looking to find the back of the net, the Ravens outshot the Skyhawks 27 to 7 in the second period. With a power play opportunity for both teams in the period, the score remained 0-0.
  • The Skyhawks were able to take the lead in the third period when Bailey Feeney found Seina Spadone, who fired a shot past Hertl.
  • With the clock dwindling down for the Ravens, they were gifted a power play after Payton Palsa found herself in the box for tripping. Hailey Anderson (Greer, S.C.) found an opening with less than three minutes left in regulation, evening the score and sending the game into overtime.
  • In the first overtime period, both teams looked for the game's winning goal, but the overtime period was left scoreless, forcing another 20-minutes.
  • Early in the second overtime period, the Ravens were granted a power play opportunity. With the help of Melanie Targosz (Livonia, Mich.), the puck landed on the stick of Abigail Broz (White Bear Lake, Minn.), who fired a shot into the top right corner of the net, sending the Ravens into the NEWHA championship game.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS

  • Hertl made 40 saves.
