HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Ravens started with an early lead on a man-up opportunity early in the first quarter. Erin McIlroy found Olivia Robb open in the middle in front of the net, and Robb was able to capitalize on the opportunity. Dominican answered shortly after with a goal of their own, sending the teams into the second quarter tied at 1.
- In a two goal deficit in the second quarter, Alyssa Brodeur drew the free position shot, giving Franklin Pierce a promising opportunity. The freshman took it herself from the 8 meter line and closed the deficit to 3-2. The Chargers would finish three more times before the end of the half, all of which were man-up opportunities.Â
- Coming out of halftime, Dominican extended their lead to 7-2 before Robb scored her second goal of the game on a free position shot of her own. Strong defense led by Courtney Hannes, Dierdre Mullin, and Sydne Francheselli allowed one more goal in the third quarter by the Chargers - the Ravens went into the fourth quarter trailing 8-3.
- Franklin Pierce dominated early in the final quarter of regulation, scoring quickly off the first draw control. Robb netted a hat trick off an assist by Kelci Waters. Less than a minute later, Waters added a goal of her own. Driving off the elbow, McIlroy netted her first goal of the contest, cutting the Ravens' deficit to just two goals. The Chargers answered a minute later, bringing the score to 9-6 Dominican. With the man-up advantage, McIlroy caught the ball in the middle from Brodeur and sent it in for a goal. McIlroy drew a free position shot with five minutes left to play and found the back of the net, leaving the Ravens with a 1 point trail on the Chargers. Waters and Robb each netted another of their own to take the 10-9 lead for Franklin Pierce. In the final two minutes of play, a Chargers free-position shot would tie the game at 10, sending the teams into overtime.
- In the first five minutes of golden-goal overtime, Franklin Pierce held the Chargers from getting a shot off, and found one of their own, but could not capitalize, forcing a second overtime period.
