Game 1:Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wilmington took an early two run lead with one a piece in the first and second innings. The Ravens answered with two runs of their own in the second. Rafael Rodriguez Rosa got Franklin Pierce on the board with a solo homer in the first at bat of the inning. With the bases loaded on an error and two wild pitches by Wilmington, Jacob Roque showed patience at the plate, walking in a run in Curt Boyd. A double play ended the inning before the Ravens could take the lead.Â
- In the top of the third inning, Wilmington added two more runs to regain their lead. Steven Parent took the mound in relief of Anthony Paolicelli, and despite getting out of the fourth inning with no runs scored, could not continue this into the fifth inning, when the Wildcats added six runs to extend their lead to 10-2, and then even further at 13-2 in the sixth.Â
- Following the 13th and final run for Wilmington, Jamie Leggett came in to finish out the game for Franklin Pierce. A single by Bryan Sanders II in the bottom of the sixth hoped to start some offensive momentum for the Ravens, but was left on base at the end of the innings.
- With two outs and bases loaded in the seventh inning for Wilmington, strong defense by the Ravens ended the inning on a fielder's choice to avoid any more damage. A three-up three-down seventh inning for Franklin Pierce would close the game through the mercy rule, giving Wilmington the 13-2 win.
