HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tommy Sullivan took the start on the mound for the Ravens, holding the Mavericks off the board in the first inning. Franklin Pierce took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the first, when Ivan Arias hit a sacrifice fly with Andreas Boglis on first base and Joey Acker on third. The RBI by Arias put the Ravens ahead 1-0 going into the second inning.
- The top of the second inning saw the Mavericks come back. Three base hits (two extra-base), a Ravens error, and a Mercy home-run put the five runs on the board for the Mavericks in the second.
- Franklin Pierce took their second lead of the game with a six-run third inning. A pair of walks to begin the inning put Acker and Boglis back on base, and a hard ground ball by Arias would send Acker home. Just after, the designated hitter, Curt Boyd doubled on a line drive to center field, scoring Boglis and Arias. Boyd then tied the game at 5, scoring on a wild pitch by Mercy. In his first at-bat of the game after subbing in at first-base, Rafael Rodriguez Rosa singled, allowing Thomas Dillon to regain the Ravens lead. Before the third out of the inning, Franklin Pierce tacked on one more run when Brycen Tetler singled to right field, and Rodriguez Rosa beat the throw home, taking the 7-5 lead.
- Mercy would again close the gap with one run in the top of the fourth inning, but was answered by two Franklin Pierce runs in the bottom of the frame. Rodriguez Rosa doubled to send Boyd and Jacob Roque home, both of which drew walks to get on base, making the score 9-6 Franklin Pierce.
- A one-run fifth inning for the Mavericks was followed by a scoreless Ravens fifth, but action picked back up in the sixth inning. The Mavericks added 10 to their score in a single inning, through seven singles, one double, a triple, and three walks. This would give Mercy the lead, 17-9. Franklin Pierce again worked to close the gap in the bottom of the inning, but it wouldn't be enough. A pair of singles by Acker and Boglis would score runs, bring the Ravens to 11. Acker would then score on a wild pitch to Boyd, who ultimately singled to the shortstop, scoring Boglis. With Arias on third base, a ground out by Thomas Dillon ended the inning before the Ravens continued to close the deficit.
- The seventh and eighth innings added five more runs to Mercy's score, and the last three innings remained scoreless for Franklin Pierce. This would finalize the score at 22-13, Mavericks.Â
