Game 1:

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first nine innings of the game remained scoreless, with strong pitching from both teams. Anthony Paolocelli started on the mound for the Ravens, pitching efficiently to go 7.2 innings.
  • It was not until the fourth inning that either team gained much offensive momentum. The Ravens brought runners to first and second off a single by Andreas Boglis, and a walk earned by Brycen Tetler, but neither were able to advance past second base before the third out.
  • A collection of singles and walks would be the only way either team would get on base until Boglis hit a double in the sixth inning, but again, the inning would end in a strikeout before Boglis made it farther.
  • Through 7.2 innings with Paolocelli pitching, he gave up no runs on four hits, five walks, and five strikeouts. Lane LeClair entered the game in relief of the starting pitcher, and would go 5.1 innings, letting up no runs, as well. In 20 batters faced, LeClair allowed three its and one walk, with six strikeouts, but suffered the loss on the single earned run. Stephen Bangs finished the last two outs of the game, ending in a sacrifice fly, which scored the only run of the afternoon's game.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS

  • The Ravens recorded nine hits, including two by Joey Acker, Ivan Arias, and Jacob Roque.
  • Each team recorded 11 strikeouts - five by Anthony Paolocelli, and six by Lane LeClair for Franklin Pierce.
  • Five walks were drawn by the Ravens, and 14 were left on base through 14 innings.

Game 2:

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Ravens fell behind 1-0 early in the first inning, and couldn't come back against Goldey-Beacom this afternoon. Matt Lee started on the mound for Franklin Pierce, after Goldey-Beacom hit a single and stole second and third base, followed by a two walks to load the bases. A second single would score the only run of the game.
  • The Ravens had four back-to-back three-up three-down innings to start the game, and were not able to get on base until Curt Boyd was hit by a pitch in the top of the fifth. Both teams would prove to be efficient pitching-wise, as Lee recorded nine strikeouts in 6.0 innings pitched, and the Ravens were struck out five times in just as many innings.
  • The sixth inning saw the first hits of the game for Franklin Pierce -three singles in a row, showing promise, but were cut short by an inning-ending line out to first base.
  • In the bottom of the seventh inning, Stephen Bangs came into close for the Ravens, giving up no runs before the end of the game.
  • Two more Ravens hits would come in the eighth and ninth innings, but they could not find their way past there, finalizing the 1-0 loss.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS

  • Franklin Pierce had five hits all of which were left on base, two coming from Thomas Dillon.
  • Matt Lee recorded nine strikeouts for the Ravens, while Goldey-Beacom recorded six.
  • Franklin Pierce gave up three walks, while the Lightning allowed zero.
