Bridgeport, CT (9/30/2025) – The
Franklin Pierce women's soccer team was held to a dramatic 1-1 draw against the Bridgeport Purple Knights on Tuesday night. Despite a second half strike from Mckenna Maguire (Brookline, NH), it was not enough for the Ravens to take home all 3 points in this non-conference matchup.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a very quiet 44 minutes the Ravens thought they had scored the first goal of the game when a freekick bounced in the area and found the feet of Flavia Taveri (Rome, Italy) who slotted it in but the dismay of the Ravens the sideline referee raised his flag for offside meaning the Ravens where to head into the break 0-0.
- It took until the last 18 minutes of the game for the Ravens to draw first blood as Mikayla Horton (East Islip, N.Y.) beat her defender and took a long range shot from outside the box that goalkeeper Sky Hernandez could not get a solid hold of spilling it to Maguire who with no hesitation slotted past Henandez to find the first goal of the game.
- As the game winded down in the last 30 seconds of the game with the Ravens believing they were to leave Knights Field with yet another victory, one last corner arrived for the Purple Knights after a brilliant close range save from goalkeeper Jess LaCroix (Nashua, NH). Chloe Oudin sent in a perfect ball that found the head of Lily Rodriguez whose header was too powerful for LaCroix to keep out, equalizing the game in what was Bridgeport's last breath.
BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS
- Jenni Huttunen (Tuusula, Finland) led the Ravens with 6 shots, 4 of which being on goal.
