Ravens come up short in close battle against AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. 9/13/25 - Franklin Pierce Field Hockey traveled to American International College where they suffered a tough loss to the Yellow Jackets. Despite a stunning goal from Sage Clukey and tying the game at the end of the first half, the Ravens fell to AIC 2-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Anella Rossi struck early for AIC in the first minute, with Venna Foll passing the ball to Rossi in the circle after a foul. However, it would only be two minutes later when a shot from Delaney Condon (Atkinson, N.H) would rebound off the Yellow Jackets goalie where Sage Clukey (Winslow, Maine) would take the ball out of the air, finding the back of the cage.
  • AIC answered shortly after, as Mia Wood navigated through heavy traffic to slip the ball past Zoe Noorlag (Amersfoort, Netherlands), putting the Yellow Jackets back in front.
  • The back-and-forth battle continued between Pierce and AIC as Abigail Tarka (Natick, Mass.) ended the second quarter with her first goal of the season, allowing the Ravens to enter the second half all tied up.
  • The second half opened with both teams going after that game-winning goal. Foll was able to beat the Ravens to it, scoring on a pass from Milagros Zanatelli in the first five minutes of the second half, taking the lead for the Yellow Jackets.
  • Despite 3 more shots from Tarka and 2 penalty corners by Lily Zavras (Worcester, Mass.) in the fourth quarter, the Ravens couldn't get the job done. Fortunately, the Ravens conference record remains untouched.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Pierce had 9 penalty corners while AIC only had 1.
  • The Ravens outshot AIC 26 to 15.
  • Zoorlag had 10 saves throughout the game.
  • Zavras led the team with 5 shots on goal.
