Ravens Split Crucial NE10 Doubleheader at SNHU

 

HOOKSETT, N.H. (5/2/25) - In a critical Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader with postseason seeding on the line, the Franklin Pierce baseball team took game one 12-6 before falling in a slugfest in game two, 17-7, against Southern New Hampshire on Friday afternoon at Penmen Field. With just one game remaining in the regular season, both programs remain firmly in the hunt for top playoff positioning.

GAME 1: FPU 12, SNHU 6

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The Ravens wasted no time getting on the board, striking for four runs in the top of the first inning. Sophomore right fielder Michael Quiros (Springfield, Mass.) opened the scoring with an RBI double to left center that brought home redshirt sophomore catcher Brycen Tetler (Plymouth, Mass.). Senior second baseman Kiobel Lugo (Boston, Mass.) then drove in a run on a fielder's choice, before senior first baseman Anthony Marcano (Boston, Mass.) knocked an RBI double of his own. Graduate third baseman Julien Monks (Pacé, France) capped the early burst with an RBI single to make it 4-0 Franklin Pierce. 

  • The Penmen answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the first, but the Ravens extended their lead again in the top of the second. Quiros struck again with a solo home run to left field to make it 5-2. 

  • Southern New Hampshire kept things close, scoring two more in the third to make it a 5-4 ballgame. However, the Ravens pulled away with a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Monks, and another in the sixth when Lugo doubled down the right field line to score Tetler, stretching the lead to 7-4. 

  • Quiros wasn't done yet, delivering a two-RBI double to right center in the top of the seventh to make it 9-4 in favor of the Ravens. 

  • After SNHU chipped away with a run in the bottom of the seventh, Franklin Pierce added three more insurance runs in the ninth. Senior shortstop Ivan Arias (Boston, Mass.) blasted a solo home run to left, followed by an RBI single from Quiros and a sacrifice fly by Marcano to close out the scoring. 

  • The Penmen scored one more in the bottom of the ninth, but junior right-hander Drew Delucia (Medway, Mass.) closed things out for his sixth win of the season. 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS 

  • Franklin Pierce outhit SNHU 15-11. 

  • Michael Quiros had a career day, going 4-for-4 with 4 RBIs, including 2 doubles and a home run. 

  • The Ravens did not commit an error, while the Penmen made 3 defensive miscues. 

  • Drew Delucia threw a complete game, going 9.0 innings, allowing 6 earned runs, walking 1 and striking out 8 on 128 pitches. 

GAME 2: FPU 7, SNHU 17

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Southern New Hampshire unleashed an offensive outburst in the early innings and never looked back, rolling to a 17–7 win over Franklin Pierce on Thursday afternoon at Penmen Field. 

  • The Penmen sent a message right away, putting up seven runs in the bottom of the first inning. The damage began with a three-run homer by Nater Wachter, followed by a series of RBI hits from Kyle Lavigne, Joel Valera, and Ruben Fernandez. In the second, SNHU added three more, including a two-run single from Valera and a costly error in left field that allowed a fourth run to cross, pushing the lead to 10–0. 

  • Franklin Pierce responded with a surge in the top of the third. Nolan DeAndrade (Braintree, Mass.) launched a three-run homer to left, and Arias followed later in the inning with a two-run shot, cutting the deficit in half at 10–5. 

  • But SNHU continued to pad the lead. The Penmen tacked on two solo homers in the fourth — one by Jackson Marshall, the other by Jake Pisano — and three more runs between the fifth and sixth innings, highlighted by long balls from Valera and Steven Kienzle. By the end of the sixth, the Penmen led 17–5. 

  • The Ravens added some late offense in the eighth, when Quiros hit a two-run homer to center — his second extra-base hit of the day — but the game was well out of reach. 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:  

  • The Penmen outhit the Ravens 14-12.  

  • Each team committed an error each.  

  • Seven different Ravens combined for 11 strikeouts on the mound.  

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens and the Penmen will continue their three-game series with a crucial 9-inning conference game tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Hooksett.
