Ravens Clinch Northeast Division Regular Season Title with an 8-5 Win at SNHU

HOOKSETT, N.H. (5/2/25) - The Franklin Pierce baseball team locked up the Northeast Division regular-season crown on Saturday afternoon after an 8-5 victory over Southern New Hampshire at Penmen Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Franklin Pierce struck first in the second inning with a three-run outburst. Anthony Marcano (Boston, Mass.) launched a solo homer to left center to break the deadlock. Julien Monks (Pace, France) and Joey Acker (Upton, Mass.) followed with RBI singles to give the Ravens a 3-0 lead.
  • Southern New Hampshire responded with a run in the third on a Jake Risedorf RBI double, then added two more in the fourth and fifth to tie it 3-3.
  • The Ravens roared back with a four-run sixth inning to seize control. Monks started the rally with an RBI single, followed by a two-run single from Acker that was aided by an outfield error. Michael Quiros (Springfield, Mass.) capped the inning with a clutch RBI single to make it 7-3.
  • After a long-winded weather delay, SNHU trimmed the lead to 7-4 with a sac fly in the bottom of the sixth, but Franklin Pierce tacked on an insurance run in the top of the eighth when Kiobel Lugo (Boston, Mass.) singled to plate Curt Boyd (Braintree, Mass.)
  • The Penmen added one more in the bottom of the eighth, but Esteban Rivera III (Hamden, Conn.) closed the door with 1.1 innings of work to lock up the win and the division title.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS

  • Franklin Pierce outhit SNHU 14-10
  • Joey Acker led the team with four hits and two RBI.
  • The Ravens committed two errors while the Penmen had three.
  • Stephen Bangs (Stoughton, Mass.) earned the win coming in for relief for Niklas Pavia, who struck out three each.

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: With today's win, the Ravens earned the top seed in the NE10 Championships. They will open up the first round with a home game against No.4 Saint Anselm on Tuesday (5/6) at 6 p.m. The winner of the game will then advance to the finals weekend which is to be hosted by the highest remaining seed in the Southwest Division.
