RINDGE, N.H. (4/6/25) – Despite a dominant 10-3 win in Game 1 of the twin bill for the Franklin Pierce Ravens baseball team, they fell short 8-6 in a comeback thriller in extra innings in Game 2 to Saint Anselm Hawks. They earned the split against their inter-state rival the Saint Anselm Hawks.

Game 1:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hawks took an early lead in the top of the 2nd inning. Shea Howrigan grounded into a double play, but it scored a runner from third to go up 1-0.
- The Ravens answered in a big way in the bottom of the 2nd. Redshirt freshman Curt Boyd (Braintree, Mass.) clobbered a 2-run homer to take the 2-1 lead. The Ravens then made it back-to-back homers as redshirt junior Shane Hewlette (Deer Park, N.Y.) belted a solo homer to give them the 3-1 lead.
- The Ravens tacked onto their lead in the bottom of the 4th. Graduate third baseman Julien Monks (Pacé, France) reached first on an error by the shortstop to score Shane Hewlette to make it 4-1 Ravens. Then, junior center fielder Joey Acker (Upton, Mass.) ripped an RBI double down the right field line to score another run.
- The game got out of control for the Hawks in the bottom of the 6th inning. Julien Monks smacked a 2-RBI single to center field and give the Ravens the commanding 7-1 lead. The Ravens added another run as Julien Monks scored on a wild pitch to go up 8-1.
- In the bottom of the 7th inning, Julien Monks made it a 4-RBI Day as he rifled a single to second base to take the 10-1 lead.
- The Hawks got a few runs back toward the end of the game as George Slauson hit a solo homer and Shea Howrigan scored on a passed ball as the Ravens took the first game 10-3.
BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:
- Each team had 12 hits.
- The Ravens committed no errors, the Hawks committed 2.
- Junior right hander Drew DeLucia (Medway, Mass.) earned the win on the mound for the Ravens. He pitched 7 and two-thirds innings, allowing 10 hits including a home run, 2 earned runs, striking 5 batters, and walking none.
- Redshirt senior right hander Sean Foody (Orangeburg, N.Y.) came in relief and pitched an inning and a third, giving up 2 hits and 1 earned run.
Game 2:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Jackson Powers of the Hawks had an outstanding start to Game 2 of the doubleheader. He smacked a solo homer to right field in the top of the 1st inning, then hit another solo homer in the top of the 3rd to give the Hawks the 3-0 lead. Saint Anselm wouldn't stop in the 3rd inning as Peter Fischer lined a 2-RBI double to center field to make it 4-0. Then, Ben Rose scored on a wild pitch to go up 5-0.
- The Ravens flipped the game around completely in the bottom of the 5th inning. Senior first baseman Anthony Marcano (Boston, Mass.) started the comeback as he roped a 2-RBI single to left field to score Joey Acker and senior designated hitter Elias Meredith (Philadelphia, Pa.). Then, Curt Boyd added his 2nd homer of the doubleheader as he smashed a 3-run homer to left field and tie the game 5-5.
- The Hawks responded in the top of the 7th when Ben Rose lifted an RBI single into left field to regain the lead, 6-5.
- The Ravens kept the game alive in the bottom of the 7th. Shane Hewlette walked with the bases load to tie the game 6-6 and send it into extra innings.
- The Hawks were relentless in the top of the 8th. Owen McCarron smoked a triple into straightaway center field over the head of Ravens sophomore center fielder Jayden Villanueva (Lowell, Mass.) to score 2 runs and go up 8-6. The Hawks held on for the Game 2 win to earn the hard-fought split against the Ravens on the road.
BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:
- The Hawks outhit the Ravens 11-5.
- The Ravens committed no errors compared to 1 from the Hawks.
- Senior right hander Esteban Rivera III (Hamden, Conn.) started on the mound for the Ravens. He pitched 2 and two-thirds innings, allowing 6 hits including 2 home runs, 5 earned runs, walking 2 batters, and striking out 2 batters.
- Senior righty Stephen Bangs (Stoughton, Mass.) came in relief and pitched solid, going 2 and a thirds innings, giving up 1 hit, walking a batter, and striking out 3 batters.
- Redshirt freshman Matt Lee (Pittsfield, Mass.) suffered the loss for the Ravens. He pitched an inning and two thirds, giving up 2 hits, 2 earned runs, walking a batter, and striking out 4 batters.
