GAME 1: Franklin Pierce 6, Saint Anselm 2

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The rival Hawks got on the board first in the top of the first inning thanks to a sacrifice fly and was later followed in the third inning where a fielder's choice extended the Hawks lead to 2-0.
  • The Raven bats were silent until the sixth inning when reigning NE10 player of the week Joey Acker (Upton, Mass.) hit a sacrifice fly allowing Shane Hewlette (Deer Park, N.Y.) to tag up and score getting the Ravens on the board, 2-1.
  • In the seventh Curt Boyd (Braintree, Mass.) singled into the gap in left-center field and after a fielding error allowed Kiobel Lugo (Boston, Mass.) and Ivan Arias (Boston, Mass.) to score giving the Ravens the 3-2 lead.
  • Later in the inning Hewlette sent a big fly over the fence adding two more insurance runs to the Ravens lead.
  • Then in the eighth inning, Anthony Marcano (Boston, Mass.) added the icing on the cake with a solo shot to solidify the 6-2 win.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS

  • The Ravens had six runs on six hits while the Hawks had two runs on five hits and committed one error.
  • Niklas Pavia (Bolton, Mass.) started the first six innings for the Ravens before being relieved by Stephen Bangs (Stoughton, Mass.) who notched the win out of the bullpen.

GAME 2: Franklin Pierce 15, Saint Anselm 5

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Hawks once again got the scoring started in the first inning with, yet another sacrifice fly to give the Hawks an early lead. The Ravens, however, would respond in the bottom of the first after an RBI single from Lugo to bring in Acker, tying the game up at one.
  • A Hawk RBI single in the second gave them the lead back but was shortly lived as in the bottom frame, Hewlette launched one over the wall to tie the game up once again at two.
  • In the third a sacrifice fly by the Hawks pulled them ahead 3-2 but was also short lived as the Ravens in the third erupted with a five run inning after a Marcano RBI single, Boyd RBI single, Hewlettes second homer of the game that scored two runs, and another costly error by the Hawks defense adding another for the Ravens who extended the lead to 7-3.
  • The Hawks got one back in the fifth on a sacrifice fly but the Ravens were able to respond in the bottom of the inning after a wild pitch scored Hewlette which was then followed by an Acker fielders choice.
  • In the sixth the Ravens added another run thanks to a sac fly by Hewlette.
  • The Ravens then added five runs in the seventh after doubles from Michael Quiros (Springfield, Mass.), Arias, and Boyd that extended the lead to 14-4, and Hewlette added an RBI single to make it 15-4.
  • The Hawks tallied a lone run in the ninth but were unable to mount a comeback, giving the sweep to the Ravens.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS

  • Hewlette went 3-for-3 with two homeruns, 5 RBI, and 1 walk.
  • Kyle Salvati (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) went six strong innings giving him the win.
