Ravens Bounce Back Late to Finish Dominant Sweep

Colchester, Vt (4/23/25) - The Franklin Pierce baseball team win their 17th out of their last 18th game after sweeping the Saint Michaels Purple Knights in their doubleheader Wednesday afternoon.  

Scores: 

Game 1 – Franklin Pierce 23, Saint Michaels 6.  

Game 2 – Franklin Pierce 8, Saint Michaels 7.  

Records: Franklin Pierce 27-16 (17-3 NE10), Saint Michaels 8-23 (7-13 NE10)  

Location: Doc Jacobs Field, Colchester, Vt  

Date: April 23rd, 2025  

Game 1 

HOW IT HAPPENED  

  • The Purple Knights got out to an early lead after an RBI single by Evan Balian with two outs scoring Max Kolifrath in the opening frame. 

  • After another inning, the Ravens finally answered with a rally of their own in the third inning. Michael Quiros (Springfield, Mass.) gets it started by scoring on a wild pitch. Anthony Marcano (Boston, Mass.) follows that up by driving his fellow Boston native Kiobel Lugo (Boston, Mass.) home to give the Ravens the lead 2-1. Curt Boyd (Braintree, Mass.) busts the game open later in the inning with a three run blast to make it 5-1. 

  • The Purple Knights get right back into the game in the bottom half of the third inning. Seth Larson scored on an error hit by Kolifrath. Colin Kinsella follows a sacrifice fly with an RBI single to get the game within 1. 

  • Following the third inning, it was all the Ravens. Shane Hewlette (Deer Park, N.Y.) gets the rally started with an RBI single. Marcano hits an RBI double, then later scores in the fourth. 

  • Despite some answer from Kolifrath in the bottom half of the fourth inning, the Ravens take complete control. They score 15 more runs in the remaining 5 innings.  

  • Lugo's 3-run homer proves to be all the Ravens needed as the Ravens go on to dominate in game 1, 23-6. 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS  

  • The Ravens out hit the Purple Knights 28-13. 

  • The Purple Knights gave the Ravens free bases as they gave up 10 walks in the game to the Ravens' 3.  

  • Junior right-hander Kyle Salvati (Mount Sinai, NY) gets the win out of the bullpen, going 4.1 innings and striking out 4. 

Game 2 

HOW IT HAPPENED  

  • Hewlette picks right up where the Ravens left off in game 1, driving a ground-rule double in the opening frame to score Lugo. 

  • Zach Jalbert tied the game back up in the bottom of the 1st inning with a solo homer. 

  • In the second inning, the Ravens ran into walk trouble, walking in a run then allowing a couple of singles to get the Purple Knights up 5-1. 

  • The Ravens start to rally back in the 5th inning with Hewlette getting the ravens back on the board with an RBI double. Hewlette later scores on a wild pitch to tie the game at 5. Marcano then scores on an error at third base to get the Ravens the lead. 

  • Despite giving back the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Ravens overcame the small deficit very quickly. After a fielder's choice, the Ravens tied the game back up at 6 from Quiros. 

  • In the seventh, game on the line, freshman Jacob Roque (Wilmington Mass.) singles in Elias Meredith (Philadelphia, PA) to get the Ravens the lead for good. 

  • Drew DeLucia (Medway, Mass.) comes in to close it in the 7th inning, sitting the Purple Knights down 1, 2, 3. 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS  

  • The Purple Knights outhit the Ravens 8-7. 

  • The Purple Knights struggled defensively, giving up 5 errors to the Ravens 2.  

  • Sean Foody (Orangeburg, N.Y.) wins on the bump, tallying 5 strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched. 

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS  

The Ravens head back home for senior day on a doubleheader against the American International College Yellow Jackets on Saturday the 26th of April. First Pitch of game 1 is set for 12 PM.
