HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Ravens exploded for 12 runs in the bottom of the second inning, blowing the game wide open early. Sophomore infielder Ivan Arias (Lawrence, Mass.) sparked the rally with a bunt triple that drove in two runs, followed by an RBI triple from graduate Julien Monks (Pacé, France) to keep the momentum rolling. Graduate Brett Tetler (Colchester, Conn.) and freshman Jacob Roque (Wilmington, Mass.) each added RBIs to extend the lead, and junior Shane Hewlette (Deer Park, N.Y.) delivered a two-RBI triple to deep left center. Monks later added another RBI single, and a two-run single from junior Joey Acker (Upton, Mass.) capped off the monster inning to give Franklin Pierce a 12-1 lead after two.
- The Ravens continued to pile on in the third. Hewlette tripled again, scoring Kiobel Lugo (Boston, Mass.), then scored himself on a Monks groundout. Tetler added another RBI on a groundout to third, making it 15-1.
- In the fourth, Roque delivered again with an RBI single before later scoring on a wild pitch. Hewlette was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, plating another run to push the lead to 18-1.
- Acker tacked on one more for the Ravens in the fifth with a sacrifice fly to score Roque, giving Franklin Pierce a 19-1 advantage.
- Assumption added a few in the seventh, highlighted by a grand slam from M. Holbrook, trimming the deficit to 19-7. But Franklin Pierce responded quickly as Hewlette launched a two-run homer in the bottom half, giving him a career-high seven RBIs on the day and extending the lead to 21-7.
- The Greyhounds added five runs over the final two innings, but the Ravens' offensive onslaught early on was more than enough to secure the 21-12 victory at home.
