Ravens Split Senior Day Doubleheader with Assumption

RINDGE, N.H. (4/19/25) - On Senior Day at the Bisaccia Softball Complex, the Franklin Pierce softball team earned a doubleheader split against NE10 rival Assumption. The Ravens used a big second inning to take game one, 3-1, before the Greyhounds bounced back with a late rally to claim game two, 4-2.

Records:  Assumption (16-22, 9-7, NE10), Franklin Pierce (18-18, 7-9 NE10)

Location: Bisaccia Softball Complex, Rindge, N.H.

Date: Saturday, April 19, 2025

GAME 1: Assumption 1, Franklin Pierce 3

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • It took until the bottom of the second inning for the Ravens to get the bats going. Senior shortstop Hailey Bigwood (Athol, Mass.) reached on an error to get things started, followed by a single from senior third baseman Lita Vorseth (Mesa, Ariz.) to move Bigwood to third. Freshman catcher Taylor Ellis (Crandall, Texas) came through with an RBI single to left field to bring Bigwood home and open the scoring.

  • With two outs, senior center fielder Bella Williams (Phoenix, Ariz.) stepped up and crushed a triple to right field, clearing the bases and giving the Ravens a 3-0 lead.

  • Assumption got on the board in the top of the third when Kaitlyn Cahill launched a solo home run to center field, but that would be all the Greyhounds could manage.

  • The Ravens' defense held strong the rest of the way, and sophomore pitcher Georgia Clough (Barriere, British Columbia) tossed a complete game to earn her eighth win of the season.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS

  • The Ravens outhit the Greyhounds 7-4.

  • Franklin Pierce did not commit an error, while Assumption committed two.

  • Georgia Clough (8-9) pitched 7 innings, allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run, while striking out 5 with no walks.

  • Kaitlyn Cahill homered for Assumption's only run.

GAME 2: Assumption 4, Franklin Pierce 2

  • Assumption opened the scoring in the top of the fifth inning after Cahill stole third and came home on a throwing error by the catcher to take a 1-0 lead.

  • The Ravens responded immediately in the bottom half. After a leadoff single from Ellis, freshman Maisie Lerette (New Gloucester, Maine) came in as a pinch hitter and made the most of her opportunity, launching a two-run homer to left field to give Franklin Pierce a 2-1 advantage.

  • But the lead didn't last long. In the sixth, Assumption strung together four hits and a walk, highlighted by a two-run single from Emily Bloom and an RBI walk by Emma Leduc to put the Greyhounds back on top, 4-2.

  • Franklin Pierce threatened in the bottom of the seventh, starting with back-to-back singles from Amy Jones (San Diego, Calif.) and Zoey Galindo (Lakewood, Calif.). But Assumption turned into a game-ending double play to stifle the rally and secure the win.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • Assumption outhit Franklin Pierce 9-8.

  • The Ravens committed one error, which led to the first Assumption run.

  • Madeline Lerette hit her first home run of the season and drove in both of the Ravens' runs.

  • Sophomore pitcher Raylee Gilbert (Waterville, Maine) took the loss, pitching 5 innings, giving up 5 hits and 1 unearned run.

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens conclude their home schedule but will hit the road for two doubleheaders in Connecticut next weekend. The Ravens will face Southern Connecticut, Friday.
