Ravens Sweep the Owls

New Haven, Conn. (4/25/25) - The Franklin Pierce Softball team swept the Southern Connecticut State Owls in a two-game doubleheader on Friday, inching them closer to the #5 seed in the NE10 standings. 

Scores: 

Game 1 – Franklin Pierce 4, SCSU 2 

Game 2 – Franklin Pierce 3, SCSU 0 

Records: Franklin Pierce 20-18 (9-9 NE10), SCSU 13-23 (2-16 NE10) 

Location: Pelz Field, New Haven, CT. 

Date: April 25th, 2025 

Game 1: 

HOW IT HAPPENED  

  • The Ravens got on the board first in the top of the second. Junior centerfielder Savannah Arreguin (Los Angeles, CA) walked with the bases loaded to score sophomore catcher Charlit Hartenstein (Massapequa, NY) and make it 1-0 Ravens. 

  • The Owls responded in the bottom of the second, however. Karley Austin tied the game with an RBI single up the middle to score Sophia Angiolini, then Izzy Ingersoll singled down the left field line to score Nadia Cestari, making it 2-1 Owls. 

  • The Ravens tied the game, 2-2, in the fifth as senior shortstop Haley Bigwood (Athol, MA) reached first on an error by the shortstop, scoring senior left fielder Bella Williams (Phoenix, AZ). 

  • Then, in the sixth, sophomore pitcher Georgia Clough (Barriere, British Columbia) singled to right center, scoring both Savannah Arreguin and first-year second baseman Danielle Belliveau (Baldwinville, MA) to put the Ravens ahead 4-2, a lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the game. 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS 

  • The Owls out-hit the Ravens 9-6 in the game, however, it was the Owls' mistakes that cost them.  

  • They gave up 2 errors in the game, which set up the Ravens to tie it and eventually take the lead.  

  • They also gave up 4 walks, contributing to the Ravens' first run. 

Game 2:  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • In the top of the second, Danielle Belliveau reached on a fielder's choice, and then senior right fielder Amy Jones (San Diego, CA) advanced to third, then scored on a throwing error, making it 1-0 Ravens. 

  • After that, in the sixth, senior infielder Lita Vorseth (Mesa, AZ) grounded out to second, scoring Charlit Hartenstein to give the Ravens a 3-0 lead they would hold onto for the rest of the game. 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS 

  • The Ravens out-hit the Owls 6-2 in the game. 

  • The Owls continued to make mistakes as they collected the only error of the game. 

  • Sophomore pitcher Raylee Gilbert (Waterville, ME) grabbed her second win in a row, pitching 4 innings in game two, only giving up 1 hit and 2 walks.  

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens conclude their regular season in New Haven as they face the New Haven Chargers in a doubleheader on Sunday. First pitch for game one is set for 11 am on Sunday, April 27th.
