Ravens Continue to Roll in Sweep Over Greyhounds.

Rindge, NH (4/18/25) - The Franklin Pierce baseball team continued their dominance on Friday, sweeping the Assumption Greyhounds with a 14-6 and 9-5 win. 

Scores: 

Game 1 – Franklin Pierce 14, Assumption 6. 

Game 2 – Franklin Pierce 9, Assumption 5. 

Records: Franklin Pierce 24-16 (15-3 NE10), Assumption 4-27 (2-13 NE10) 

Location: Dr. Martha and Arthur Pappas Field, Rindge, NH

Game 1 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Ravens offense started with a bang in the bottom of the third as sophomore outfielder Michael Quiros (Springfield, MA) crushed a grand slam to right center to open the scoring. In the very next at-bat, senior second baseman Kiobel Lugo (Boston, MA) crushed a solo home run of his own, giving the Ravens an early 5-0 lead. 

  • The Greyhounds answered in the fourth as Chris Klein homered, followed by an RBI ground-rule double from Chris Manzo that scored Sal Grinstead, cutting the Ravens' lead to 5-2. 

  • The Ravens added to their lead again in the fifth as redshirt junior Shane Hewlette (Deer Park, NY) struck an RBI single to left scoring Michael Quiros to put the Ravens ahead 6-2. 

  • The Ravens continued to extend their lead in the sixth inning. Junior outfielder Joey Acker (Upton, MA) crushed a 2-RBI double to left center to score graduate third baseman Julien Monks (Pacé, France) and junior shortstop Ivan Arias (Boston, MA). Then, Kiobel Lugo hit a sacrifice fly to deep center to score Joey Acker. After that, Shane Hewlette crushed a three-run home run deep into the Sodexo field parking lot in left field, giving the Ravens a 12-2 lead. 

  • Then, Joey Acker struck again in the seventh with a ground-rule double to score Julien Monks, giving the Ravens a commanding 13-2 lead. 

  • In the eighth, Jack Barry doubled to left field to score Andrew Cali and Sal Grinstead singled to right field to score Patrick Kostiw, making it 13-4 Ravens. 

  • In the eighth, freshman infielder Jacob Roque (Wilmington, MA) walked with the bases loaded, scoring sophomore outfielder Jayden Villanueva (Lowell, MA) to make it 14-4 Ravens. 

  • The Greyhounds scored a couple in the ninth. Andrew Cali grounded out into a double play that scored Patrick McManus. Then, Patrick Kostiw singled to the left side to score James McDermott, making it 14-6 Ravens at the end of the game. 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS 

  • The Ravens out hit the Greyhounds 12-9. 

  • The Greyhounds gave the Ravens free bases as they gave up 8 walks in the game to the Ravens' 4. 

  • Sophomore right-hander Niklas Pavia (Bolton, MA) had an impressive afternoon on the mound for the Ravens. He went for 7.0 innings with 10 punchouts, only giving up 4 hits, 2 runs, and a walk. 

Game 2 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Ravens picked up right where they left off in game one as Kiobel Lugo crushed a home run to deep left field for his second homer of the series, giving the Ravens an early 1-0 lead. 

  • In the third, Michael Quiros advanced to second and then third on a throwing error, scoring junior infielder Colin Hoffman (Longmeadow, MA), putting the Ravens ahead 2-0. 

  • In the fourth, Chris Klein crushed a three-run home run, giving the Greyhounds their first lead of the series at 3-2. 

  • They extended that lead in the fifth as Cody Smith grounded out to first, scoring Chris Manzo making it 4-2 Greyhounds. 

  • The Ravens then answered in the sixth as junior infielder Nolan DeAndrade (Bridgewater, MA) hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Michael Quiros, making it 4-3 Greyhounds. 

  • In the eighth, redshirt freshman catcher Curt Boyd (Braintree, MA) crushed a solo home run, giving the Ravens a 9-4 lead. 

  • The Greyhounds scored one more in the ninth as James McDermott singled to left field, scoring Jamison Howland, however, it was not enough for a comeback as the Ravens held on to win 9-5. 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS 

  • The Ravens outhit the Greyhounds 10-5. 

  • The Greyhounds struggled defensively, giving up 2 errors to the Ravens 1. 

  • The Ravens' pitching staff made life difficult for the Greyhounds, striking out 12 combined batters to the Ravens striking out a combined 10 times. 

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS 

The Ravens finish up their series with the Greyhounds on Saturday. First pitch for game three of the series will be at noon at Pappas Field in Rindge, NH.
