Ravens Split Doubleheader Against Falcons

RINDGE, N.H. (4/18/2025) – The Franklin Pierce Ravens softball team earned the split against the Bentley Falcons on Friday afternoon in Northeast-10 conference action at Melissa Bisaccia Field.

Score: Game 1: Franklin Pierce 4, Bentley 2 Game 2: Bentley 3, Franklin Pierce 2

Records: Franklin Pierce (17-17, 6-10 NE-10), Bentley (16-16, 7-7 NE-10)

Game 1:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • It took until the bottom of the 3rd inning for the Ravens to break the scoreless tie. Senior third baseman Hailey Bigwood (Athol, Mass.) got the inning started as she drilled a double into right center field. Then, senior center fielder Bella Williams (Phoenix, Ariz.) ripped a single down the left field line to score Hailey Bigwood and make it 1-0 Ravens.
  • The Falcons countered in the top of the 4th inning. Maddie Baker lifted an RBI single to center field to tie the score 1-1.
  • It didn't take long for the Ravens to regain their lead in the bottom of the 4th. Senior first baseman Anna Erikson (Temecula, Calif.) clobbered a solo home run off the scoreboard to regain the lead 2-1.
  • The game continued to be a seesaw battle. The Falcons tied it up again in the top of the 5th to level the score 2-2. Jess Morrison drove an RBI single to left field to tie the game.
  • The Ravens pulled away from the Falcons in the bottom of the 5th inning. It started with freshman left fielder Zoey Galindo (Lakewood, Calif.) roping a double to left center field on the first pitch she saw. Then, Hailey Bigwood grounded out to second base to advance Zoey Galindo to third. Bella Williams made it a 2-RBI performance as she crushed an RBI triple down the right field line to put the Ravens in front 3-2. Then, sophomore catcher Charlit Hartenstein (Massapequa, N.Y.) reached first on an error by the shortstop to score Bella Williams and give the Ravens the 4-2 lead, which they held for the rest of the game and earned the Game 1 victory.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • The Falcons outhit the Ravens 9-5.
  • Each team committed an error.
  • Sophomore pitcher Raylee Gilbert (Waterville, Maine) earned her 1st win of the season in the circle for the Ravens. She pitched 4 and a third innings, giving up 5 hits, 2 earned runs, walking 2 batters, and striking out 1.
  • Sophomore pitcher Kennedy Morris (Stafford, Conn.) earned the save in relief. She pitched 2 and two thirds' innings, allowing 4 hits, no earned runs, and striking out 3 batters.

Game 2:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Falcons had a much better start in Game 2. They struck for 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning. Jordan Krause stole second base and Jess Morrison stole home to go up 1-0. Then, Jordan Krause scored on a passed ball to give them an early 2-0 lead.
  • The Ravens cut the deficit in half in the bottom half of the inning. Hailey Bigwood crushed an RBI double to center field to score Bella Williams.
  • The next few innings were quiet until the top of the 4th. Jordan Krause belted a solo home run to straightaway center field to go up 3-1.
  • The Ravens made things interesting in the bottom of the 7th inning. It started with a leadoff double from freshman third baseman Taylor Ellis (Crandall, Texas). Then, freshman third baseman Kaylee Fraund (Murietta, Calif.) came in as a pinch hitter and lifted a single to left field. Senior right fielder Amy Jones (San Diego, Calif.) pinch ran for Kaylee Fraund and Charlit Hartenstein grounded out to the pitcher. The Ravens had runners on second and third with 2 outs. Anna Erikson hit it softly to the pitcher, who made no play and Taylor Ellis scored. Amy Jones advanced to third. The Ravens were down 3-2 with 2 outs. Hailey Bigwood stepped up to the plate and hit a line shot into right center field, but Falcons center fielder Carly DiMento made a spectacular diving catch to end the game and earn a split for the Falcons.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • Each team had 6 hits.
  • The Ravens committed 1 error compared to none from the Falcons.
  • Sophomore pitcher Georgia Clough (Barriere, British Columbia) suffered the loss in the circle for the Ravens. She pitched 7 innings, giving up 6 hits, 3 runs, one home run, and striking out 6 batters.

NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens are back in action tomorrow (4/19) at home as they take on the Assumption Greyhounds. Game 1 is the Ravens Senior Day which starts at 2 p.m. Game 2 is set for 4 p.m.
