Game 1

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Ravens jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first, capitalizing on a defensive miscue by the Setters. Shane Hewlette (Deer Park, NY) reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Michael Quiros (Springfield, MA) on an error to open the scoring. Curt Boyd (Braintree, MA) then followed with an RBI single, bringing home Kiobel Lugo (Boston, MA), and Ivan Arias (Boston, MA) added an RBI single of his own to make it 3-0.

  • Franklin Pierce stayed aggressive, tacking on another run in the second with a Lugo RBI double. In the third, Boyd stole home as part of a double steal, extending the lead to 5-0.

  • In the seventh, the Ravens added four more runs, highlighted by a 2-RBI homer from Julien Monks (Pacé, France). Arias drove in another run earlier in the inning and Lugo scored on a wild sequence of steals and errors.

  • Pace broke through in the eighth with three runs, including a bases-loaded walk and a 2-RBI single by Michael Baronian. However, Franklin Pierce answered right back in the bottom half, as Lugo lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to bring home Elias Meredith (Philadelphia, PA), sealing the 10-3 win.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS

  • The Ravens out-hit Pace 11-6 in the opener.

  • Pace committed two costly errors, while Franklin Pierce played clean defense.

  • On the mound, the Ravens struck out 13 Setters and limited them to just six hits.

Game 2

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Game two picked up right where the Ravens left off. Lugo launched a solo home run in the bottom of the first to give Franklin Pierce an early 1-0 lead.

  • After Pace tied it in the second with a solo homer from Anthony Heppner, the Ravens answered right back in the third. Michael Quiros delivered a sac fly to center to score Elias Meredith, followed by Lugo's second homer of the day, a two-run shot, to put the Ravens up 4-1.

  • The offensive barrage continued into the fourth as Monks belted a solo homer to left, giving the Ravens a 5-1 cushion.

  • Pace tried to chip away with an RBI double in the fifth from Bryan Sweppenhi, but Franklin Pierce kept the pressure on. In the sixth, Arias plated Curt Boyd with a single, and Monks added his second RBI of the game with a base knock to score Arias, pushing the lead to 7-2.

  • The Ravens tacked on two more insurance runs in the eighth to finish the scoring and complete the 9-2 win.
