HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a five-game win streak for the Ravens, they hoped to add another conference win to their record. After Jenna Sharland (San Jose, Calif.) sent the puck to Caleigh Murphy (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) with minutes to spare in the first period, Murphy moved the puck around the Hawks goalie, finding the back of the net.
- In the second period, the Hawks would level the game after Avery Wilson buried the puck from the blue line past Jill Hertl (Highland Park, Ill.).
- The Ravens would respond quickly in the third period though. Within less than a minute in, Murphy picked up the puck off the stick of a Hawks player in dangerous territory, passing to Abigail Broz (White Bear Lake, Minn.) in front of the net, who buried the game winning goal.
- Despite 10 shots from the Hawks in the third, Hertl and the Ravens defense were able to hold off the Hawks, giving them just their second NEWHA loss and first in regulation.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Hawks outshot the Ravens 32 to 28.
- Hertl made 31 saves.
- Ashley Wright (Milford, Conn.) led the team with 4 blocks.
- Emma Laroche (Highgate, Vt.) recorded the most shots on goal with 4.
NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS: This NEWHA series will continue tomorrow in Manchester, New Hampshire, with a puck drop against the Hawks at 6 PM.
