HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Ravens opened the match on fire, storming out to an early 7–2 lead behind kills from Avery LeBlanc (Exeter, R.I.), Katholiki Koukia (Rhodes, Greece), and Jayne Hiatt (Granby, Conn.). Behind crisp setting from Annaka Lindstrom (Dudley, Mass.), Franklin Pierce maintained steady control throughout the frame. After a late push from the Hawks, the Ravens held firm to take the opening set, 25–14, highlighted by LeBlanc's three kills and strong blocking from Martina Spackova (Bratislava, Slovakia) and Hiatt.
  • Saint Anselm responded in the second set, capitalizing on Raven errors and service aces to build a 19–12 advantage. Despite a late kill from Adrianna Reay (Bristol, Conn.) and back-to-back blocks by Koukia, the Hawks held on to even the match with a 25–16 win.
  • The third set featured back-and-forth action as both teams traded momentum. Franklin Pierce took an early 4–0 lead, but Saint Anselm rallied with timely kills from their middle hitters to tie the score at 17–17. Despite kills from LeBlanc and Hiatt to keep things close, the Hawks edged out the frame 25–22.
  • In the fourth and final set, Franklin Pierce showed resilience, battling through several long rallies. A service ace from Lindstrom and kills from LeBlanc and Reay cut the deficit to 20–19 late, but Saint Anselm closed the door with a 5–2 finishing run to seal the match, 25–21.
