HOW IT HAPPENED
-
The first period ended scoreless, but the Ravens came out with energy. They outshot the Penmen 17-9 in the period, getting multiple chances inside the offensive zone. Penmen goaltender Collin Burke, the reigning NE10 Goaltender of the Year, looked solid in net keeping the Ravens off the board.
-
Then came the second period, and the Ravens broke through. On the power play, senior defensemen and captain Doug McGuire (Elk Grove Village, IL) fired a wrist shot from the blue line that weaved through multiple skaters in front of Burke and into the back of the net to give the Ravens a 1-0 lead. Then, junior forward Nick Fish (Ashland, MA) scored a goal from the slot that went off the post and into the net to put the Ravens ahead 2-0. Fish was not done there as he capitalized on the power play again, sneaking one past Penmen goaltender Trent Boryszczuk, who replaced Burke halfway through the game, making it 3-0 Ravens after two periods.
-
The Ravens did not play as intensely in the third, allowing a goal from Penmen forward Dillon Phillips in the first five minutes of the period that put SNHU on the board. The Ravens then held the Penmen at one for the rest of the game, even with a 6-on-5 push with the net empty. Senior forward Austin Pick(Troutdale, OR) put the game on ice with an empty net goal to secure the Ravens' 4-1 win and series sweep of the Penmen.
