HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Vikings took an early 2-0 advantage in the first period thanks to two power-play goals. Zach Dill scored the first one off a pass from Aren Francis, seven minutes into play. Then, John Waselko scored seven minutes later. The Ravens did get on the board when sophomore defensemen Joshua Tisdell (Chicopee, MA) cut the deficit in half. Then Salem State reclaimed a two-goal lead thanks to Matt Babineau scoring 40 seconds after Tisdell gave the Vikings a 3-1 cushion going into intermission.
- The Vikings quickly scored again off the stick of Ryan Barrett, 25 seconds into the period. From there, the Ravens responded mightily with three consecutive goals. Sophomore winger Mario Paganini (Harrison, NY) notched his seventh goal of the season on the power play to make it a two-goal game. Then, junior forward Nick Fish (Ashland, MA) scored his third goal in two games, and junior defenseman Todd Branish (Castle Pines, CO) scored his first goal of the season on the power play to tie the game 4-4 to end the second period.
- Five minutes into the third period, Francis added a goal to his assist in the first period to give the Vikings the lead. Then, Branish scored his second goal of the game and season on the power play to send the game to overtime tied at five. It was Zach Dill, however, who would win it 17 seconds into overtime and snap the Ravens' three-game winning streak.
