Murphy’s Game-Winner Lifts Ravens Past Assumption to Earn Series Split

WORCESTER, Mass. (11/1/2025) - The Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team bounced back on Saturday afternoon, defeating Assumption University 2–1 at the Worcester Ice Center to split the weekend series.

Score: Franklin Pierce 2, Assumption 1
Records: Franklin Pierce (4-6-0, 3-3-0 NEWHA), Assumption (4-5-1, 4-1-1 NEWHA)
Location: Worcester Ice Center, Worcester, Mass.
Date: Saturday, November 1, 2025

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Assumption opened the scoring just five minutes into the first period when Kayla McGaffigan found Caroline Lilley behind the net, who fired a shot past Franklin Pierce goaltender Jill Hertl (Highland Park, Ill.) for the 1–0 lead.
  • The Ravens answered midway through the second period as Bo Dean (Toronto, Ontario) broke free from a defender and fired a shot that was initially stopped by Assumption's Jaydn Weiser. However, Emma Laroche (Highgate, Vt.) was in perfect position to bury the rebound and even the score at 1–1.
  • The game remained deadlocked until the 12th minute of the third period, when Caleigh Murphy (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) carried the puck coast to coast through multiple Greyhound defenders before slipping it past Weiser to give the Ravens a 2–1 advantage they would not relinquish.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS

  • Assumption out shot Franklin Pierce 45–33.
  • Hertl recorded the win in goal, stopping 44 shots.
  • Dean led all players with 11 total attempts and nine shots on target, adding two assists.

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: Franklin Pierce continues NEWHA play next weekend with a two-game road series against Long Island University. The teams will open the series on Friday, November 7, at 3:00 p.m. in Brooklyn, N.Y.
