HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the opening set, the Ravens jumped out to a quick 3–1 lead, showing early energy. However, a service error by Avery LeBlanc (Exeter, R.I.) disrupted their momentum. From that point on, Franklin Pierce struggled with a string of unforced errors, allowing Mercy to take full advantage and build a commanding lead. The Mavericks capitalized and cruised to a 25–12 win in the first set.
  • The second set began with a more competitive pace. The Ravens kept things close early on, thanks to kills from LeBlanc and Katholiki Koukia (Rhodes, Greece). Despite their efforts, Mercy pulled ahead once again behind strong performances from Mia Illes-Hair and Grace Dilena, who delivered key kills to create separation. Mercy took the second set comfortably, 25–15.
  • In the third set, Mercy came out strong with a 7–1 run. The Ravens responded with a short surge led by Jayne Hiatt (Granby, Conn.), who delivered both a kill and a service ace to narrow the deficit to 5–7. However, the comeback was short-lived. Continued service errors from the Ravens and a relentless attack from Illes-Hair, Dilena, and Gabriela Bieniek helped Mercy extend their lead once more. The Mavericks secured the set 25–16, completing the sweep over Franklin Pierce

BY THE NUMBERS

  • LeBlanc and Adrianna Reay (Bristol, Conn.) would lead the team with 6 kills each.
  • The Ravens would make 18 errors while Mercy only made 12.
  • Annaka Lindstrom (Dudley, Mass.) had 17 assists.
  • Koukia and Martina Spackova (Bratislava, Slovakia) each had three blocks throughout the game.
