HOW IT HAPPENED
- Franklin Pierce started strong in the opening frame, racing out to a 7–2 lead behind a service ace from Annaka Lindstrom (Dudley, Mass.) and kills from Jayne Hiatt (Granby, Conn.) and Martina Spackova (Bratislava, Slovakia). However, Bentley quickly swung the momentum with a 13–2 run, fueled by efficient attacking and three kills from Elizabeth Blinn. Despite late efforts from Avery LeBlanc (Exeter, R.I.), the Falcons took the first set 25–15.
- The second set saw Bentley seize control early and never look back. The Ravens battled to within two points midway through the frame, highlighted by a service ace from Lindstrom and a block from LeBlanc and Spackova, but the Falcons' offense proved too much. Bentley hit .229 in the set while limiting Franklin Pierce to a -.074 clip, pulling away for a 25–18 win and a 2–0 match lead.
- Set three was the most competitive of the night, as Franklin Pierce rallied from a 10–2 deficit to pull within two points at 20–18. Lindstrom orchestrated the comeback with five assists in the run, while Hiatt and LeBlanc combined for four kills. Despite the surge, Bentley closed the door with late kills from Blinn and Sophia Poehlein to seal the match with a 25–21 decision.
BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:
- Lindstrom directed the offense with a match-high 15 assists, while also contributing five kills, three service aces, and seven digs.
