Women's Tennis: Ravens Present Complete Performance Versus Post, 7-0

MIDDLEBURY, Conn. (09/19/24) - The Franklin Pierce women's tennis team picked up their first win of the season as the Ravens routed Post by a shutout score of 7-0.  

RECORDS:  

  • FPU: 1-3 (0-3 NE10)

  • Post: 0-4 (0-3 CACC)  

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • Franklin Pierce claimed a sweeping victory in doubles. In the third match, the Raven pairing of Ana Munoz (Anzoategui, Venezuela) and Polina Georgieva (Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria) battled to a 6-0 triumph with the second doubles match featuring Gabriela Yamate (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Zoe Asterio-Correa (Toronto, Ontario) prevailing in a tiebreak, winning 7-6 (11-9).  

  • In the top singles spot, Georgieva overpowered Megan Lombardt securing a 6-1, 6-2 win. The second match featured Asterio-Correa who was in complete control throughout the match.  

  • On the third court, Yamate was dealt a competitive match against Julie Merlin. Yamate's superior consistency helped her win comfortably with a score of 6-2, 6-2.  

  • Victoria Azcona (Madrid, Spain) faced Nina Langenfeld in a back in forth match at fourth singles. Azcona took the first set 6-4, but Langenfeld responded by winning the second set 6-4, pushing the match into a third-set tiebreaker. Azcona found her rhythm again, dominating to win 10-2 and secure the match.  

  • Both five and six singles for the Ravens wasted no time asserting their dominance. Maria Paz Diaz Florentin (Asunción, Paraguay) won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1 and Munoz defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-0.  

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens return to their home court when they host Adelphi University on Tuesday, September 24. The match is set for 1 PM.
