Men's and Women's Tennis: Ravens Fall to Adelphi, 4-3

RINDGE, N.H. (09/24/24) - The Franklin Pierce men's and women's tennis teams both faced the Panthers of Adelphi University. Both teams dropped the contest with a 4-3 final in favor of the Panthers.  

Men's Records:

  • FPU: 1-1 (1-1 NE10  
  • Adelphi: 1-0 (1-1 NE10)  

Women's Records:  

  • FPU: 1-4 (0-4 NE10)
  • Adelphi: 3-1 (3-1 NE10)  
 

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The men's match kicked off bright and early with a 9 AM start. The Panthers were fully prepared in opening the doubles matches with three wins over the Ravens.  

  • In the singles for the men's match, Franklin Pierce's Noé Martin (Sainte-Agnès, France) captured a win at No. 2 with scores of 6-1 and 6-4. Right behind him, Ralph Hiebel (Paris, France), at No. 3 singles won in three sets with scores of 3-6, 6-4, and 6-3. Finally, Orlando Guerrero (Pachuco, Mexico) closed out the wins for the Ravens with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.  

  • After waiting for the men to finish, the women's match started around 2 PM. Once again, the Panthers were not afraid to come out strong and defeated the Ravens in all three doubles matches.  

  • Once singles began, Polina Georgieva (Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria ) at No. 1 singles swept the opposing Panther 6-2 and 6-1. Victoria Azcona (Madrid, Spain) and Maria Paz Diaz Florentin (Asunción, Paraguay) also captured wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Azcona won in two sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-4. Florentin had to get it done in three with scores of 2-6, 6-4, 10-7.  

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The women's team travels to Bentley on Friday for a NE10 conference matchup while the men host Bentley on Saturday at 11 AM.
