Field Hockey Completes Comeback Win Against Mercy on Senior Day

RINDGE, N.H. (10/26/24) - The Franklin Pierce field hockey team earned their second straight win as they defeated the Mavericks of Mercy University on a go-ahead goal in the fourth quarter to win 3-2. It was a special day for the Ravens, honoring their 5 seniors on the roster, including goalie Addy Araneo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), forward Caity Hazley (Kingston, Mass.), midfielder Rebecca Phillips (West Amwell, N.J.), defender Lexie Frank (Cape May Court House, N.J.) and midfielder Megan Raymond (Oxford, Mass.).

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The Ravens got off on the right foot when in the first minute, Raymond took a shot and Hazley was there for the rebound to go ahead 1-0.  

  • The Mavericks responded in the later part of the first half when they capitalized on a penalty corner. Samantha Trickel would find the rebound to tie the game at 1-1.  

  • The Mavericks would take charge in the second quarter while the Ravens dominated the third as the game remained without an additional goal.  

  • Mercy finally broke through the standstill on the scoreboard when Charlotte Sabert found Rachel Palladino who would spin with the ball and score for the 2-1 lead.  

  • Franklin Pierce evened the score when they had a penalty corner creating chaos in the arc. Cecelia Keller (Biddeford, Maine) was able to find Reese Swanson (Somerset, Mass.) right in front of the cage for a goal.  

  • In the 55th minute, the Ravens were awarded a penalty corner once again. After a shot attempt from Nina Depew (Acton, Mass.) that deflected off Swanson who tipped the ball right to Olivia O'Brien (Upton, Mass.), who scored her first goal of the season and gave the Ravens the 3-2 lead.  

INSIDE THE LINES:  

  • Shots from both sides were even at 11-11.  

  • The Ravens had 9 penalty corners to the Mavericks 4.  

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The field hockey team returns to Sodexo Field for one last time this season. They host Bentley University on Tuesday, October 29th. The game is set for 6 PM.
