Eric Vincens won eight faceoffs and scooped up six grounders
for the Ravens
ALBANY, N.Y. (March 15, 2014) – Kevin Dargin
(Littleton, Mass.) and Erik Kelly (Tewksbury,
Mass.) each scored three times and assisted on another
tally to lead the Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse
team to an important 10-3 road win at Saint Rose on Saturday
afternoon at Sullivan Field in Albany, N.Y.
The Ravens won their third in a row
in improving to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference,
while the Golden Knights dipped to 0-5 and 0-2 in league play.
Franklin Pierce dominated at both
ends of the field all afternoon, as it scored the game's
first four goals on the way to 44 total shots, while limiting Saint
Rose to just 18 attempts (only 11 on goal).
Casey Burnett (Windham,
N.H.) joined Dargin and Kelly as multiple goal scorers, as
he dumped in a pair, while Alex Connolly (West Newbury,
Mass.) and Nick Bradshaw (Westbury, N.Y.)
each added one marker. The Ravens logged double-digit shot attempts
in each quarter, while holding the Golden Knights to just 10 shots
over the first three quarters.
Eric Vincens (Ellington,
Conn.) scooped up six ground balls to help lead the Ravens
in their 41-24 edge in grounders. Goalie Don Denman
(Exeter, N.H.) stopped eight shots, and collected eight
grounders himself to earn the win to run his record to 3-1 on the
year. Dylan Leone (Tewksbury, Mass.) and
Gary Pace (White Plains, N.Y.) caused three and
two turnovers, respectively, to help guide the Ravens' stingy
effort on defense all afternoon.
Dargin got the blitz started a
little more than a minute into the game with his first goal, while
Bradshaw and Burnett each pumped in a tally in the latter stages of
the first quarter to put the Ravens up 3-0 after one.
Kelly threw in a blast in the
opening minute of the second quarter, and added another marker on
the extra-man opportunity with 4:59 remaining to give Franklin
Pierce a 5-1 lead at halftime.
Dargin, Burnett, and Kelly poured
in three-straight goals over a four-minute span midway through the
third to open up an 8-1 advantage, while Connolly added a strike
early in the fourth to make it an eight-goal advantage for the
Ravens.
Bret McAuliffe scored twice to pace
Saint Rose, while Evan Helming added the other marker. Joe Shapiro
got hammered for all 10 goals in suffering the loss to fall to 0-5
on the year.
Franklin Pierce returns to action
next Saturday when the Ravens travel to New York to face Adelphi at
4 p.m.
