Madison Finlay fires off team-high six shots
EASTON, Mass. (September 24, 2013) – Megan Sullivan
struck home a goal in the final minute of the first overtime on
Tuesday afternoon to lift Stonehill 1-0 a triumph over the Franklin
Pierce University women's soccer team in Easton, Mass.
The Skyhawks evened their record at
3-3-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the Northeast-10, while the Ravens had
their four match unbeaten streak snapped in falling to 3-2-1 and
2-1-1 in league play.
Catherine Kelly got the scoring
sequence started when she pounced on a Franklin Pierce turnover in
the 100th minute in the Ravens zone, and slipped a pass
over to Sullivan who blasted home the winning strike.
The score came on just the
Skyhawks' second shot on goal in the match. Franklin Pierce
sophomore keeper Katie Weldon (Manchester, N.H.)
made one save despite suffering the loss to fall to 3-2-1 on the
year.
The Ravens recorded 15 shots in the
contest (9 alone in the second half), including putting six on net,
highlighted by freshman Madison Finlay's (Plymouth,
Mass.) six attempts with three on net. Sophomore forward
Hannah Weagle (Ipswich, Mass.) followed with a
pair of shots on goal.
However, Stonehill keeper Amy
Wheaton was more than up to the task of turning aside all six
attempts, as she raised her record to 3-3-1 on the year.
Franklin Pierce returns to action
on Saturday when the Ravens travel to Albany, N.Y. to take on Saint
Rose at 1 p.m.
