ALBANY, N.Y. (September 28, 2013) – The No. 3
nationally ranked Saint Rose women's soccer team buried a
goal in both the first and second halves on Saturday to cruise to a
2-0 win over Franklin Pierce University at Sullivan Field in
Albany, N.Y. The Golden Knights improved to 7-0 and 4-0 in the
Northeast-10, while the Ravens dropped their second straight in
falling to 3-3-1 and 2-2-1 in league.
Sammy Blizzard opened the scoring
with a goal in the 36th minute by deflecting in a
through ball from the right side from Laura Taylor. It was all part
of a 7-3 Saint Rose advantage in shots through the opening 45
minutes, as the Golden Knights held a 22-4 edge through the entire
contest, including a 15-1 margin in the second half.
Sydney Bond put the match out of
reach in the 85th minute with a goal by tapping in a
crossing pass from the right flank from Amanda Vasquez.
Franklin Pierce sophomore keeper
Katie Weldon (Manchester, N.H.) stopped seven
shots despite suffering the loss to fall to 3-3-1 on the season.
Her counterpart, Saint Rose keeper Jessica Gerski, stopped all
three shots she faced to earn the shutout victory and run her
record to 7-0 on the year.
Freshman Madison Finlay
(Plymouth, Mass.) led Franklin Pierce with two shots,
while Eize Vieira (Espirito Santo, Brazil) and
Fernanda Marques (Sao Paulo, Brazil) each logged
an attempt apiece.
Franklin Pierce returns to action
Wednesday when the Ravens play host to Bentley at 7 p.m. at Sodexo
Field in Rindge.
