Kevin Dargin notches four goals in the win
WORCESTER, Mass. (March 26, 2013) -- The Franklin Pierce
University men's lacrosse team got back on the winning track
Tuesday night with an important 12-11 Northeast-10 Conference road
win at Assumption in the Multi-Sport Stadium in Worcester, Mass.
The Ravens snapped a three-game skid to improve to 2-3 overall and
1-2 in the NE-10, while the Greyhounds dipped to 0-6 and 0-4 in
league play.
A trio of Ravens came up huge in
the win, including junior attackman Bryan Bourque
(Goffstown, N.H.), who logged a career-high five-point
evening with three goals and two assists.
Sophomore attacker Kevin
Dargin (Littleton, Mass.) continued his string of
impressive offensive performances with four first-half goals,
including two in man-up situations, to run his team-leading total
to 11 markers.
Classmate and midfielder
Erik Kelly (Tewksbury, Mass.) had a four-point
night with two assists and a pair of goals, including one with 4:25
remaining which proved to be the game-winner.
The Ravens had fallen into a
similar trap over their three-game losing streak by watching the
opposition go on a lengthy run in the second half to pull away for
the victory. Tuesday night, though, Franklin Pierce was the team to
go on a late surge to pull out the win.
Franklin Pierce trailed 6-5 late in
the second quarter, but Dargin turned the game around by firing
home a strike right at the first half horn to tie it all up.
Dargin's late marker kick-started
the Ravens' surge, which turned out to be a 6-2 run to give them an
11-8 advantage with 12:13 remaining in the game. Senior middie
Eric Harries (Dunstable, Mass.) added to the rally
with a man-up goal a little less than a minute into the third.
Freshman Luke McDermott (New Milford, Conn.) added
a goal moments later and Bourque bridged the third and fourth
quarters with a pair of goals.
Kelly made it 11-8 with 12:13
remaining, but Assumption stemmed the tide with a goal from Garrett
Smith, who ended the game with six goals. After Kelly made it 12-9,
the Greyhounds came back with two late goals to make things
interesting at 12-11 with :30 left.
Assumption tried to get the
equalizer, but Franklin Pierce sophomore goalie Don Denman
(Exeter, N.H.) turned aside a last second shot to help
seal the win for the Ravens. Denman stopped seven shots to run his
record to 2-3 on the year.
Franklin Pierce outshot Assumption,
34-27, including putting 21 shots on goal.
Franklin Pierce returns to action
Friday when the Ravens travel to Springfield, Mass. to take on
American International at 4 p.m.
