RINDGE, N.H. (September 1, 2012) – The Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team opened its 2012 season in fine fashion on Saturday night as the Ravens exploded for four goals in a 4-1 triumph over Caldwell. Franklin Pierce improved to 1-0 on the season, while the Cougars dipped to 0-2.

A pair of Ravens logged their first collegiate goals on the night, including freshman forward Hannah Weagle (Ipswich, Mass.), who struck home a pair, and sophomore midfielder Caroline Savasta (Salem, Mass.), who scored a marker late in the first half.

Not to be outdone, junior forward Talita Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) notched a goal, which came after last season's team-high 15 points and six goals she scored. The six goals and three assists she logged last season helped her gain Third-Team All-Northeast-10 honors.

Weagle got the scoring started for the Ravens in the 25th minute when she caused a turnover deep in the Cougars zone, dribbled in and fired a shot near the top of the circle that deflected off the Caldwell keeper into the lower left corner of the net.

Franklin Pierce struck 12 minutes later when it picked up the pace of play in front of the Caldwell net, thus enabling Savasta to slip to the mouth of the goal and fire a shot to the lower left corner for her first career marker.

Weagle notched her second goal a little less than five minutes into the second half as she scored off her own rebound right in front of the net. Pereira capped the scoring in the 88th minute when she headed in a free kick attempt from senior midfielder Julie Foster (Dennisport, Mass.), who was credited with an assist on the play.

Senior keeper Casey Edward (Marshfield, Mass.) got the start in net for the Ravens and earned the win after playing just the first half. Classmate Lauren Brewer (Westford, Mass.) played the second half and made two saves. The Ravens outshot Caldwell, 15-9.

Franklin Pierce returns to action Monday night when the Ravens travel to Manchester to face Southern New Hampshire at 7 p.m.
