Men's Soccer Stays on Winning Track with 2-0 Win at New Haven

Jefferson Rojas notches assist on first goal for his first point in a Franklin Pierce uniform

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (October 6, 2012) -- The Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team won its fifth match in a row Saturday night as the Ravens downed New Haven, 2-0, at Kayo Field in West Haven, Conn. Franklin Pierce improved to 8-2 overall and 6-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Chargers fell to 4-6-1 and 1-5-1 in league play.

After a quiet first half and early stages of the second half, the Ravens exploded for both of their tallies in a seven-minute span.

Junior forward Gareth Dudney (North Andover, Mass.) struck first for the Ravens in the 63rd minute. The play started with junior Jefferson Rojas (Pawtucket, R.I.) working his way into the box and slipping a pass over to Dudney, who chipped in a shot to the upper right corner of the net for his fourth tally of the season.

It also marked the fifth-straight match Dudney has logged at least one point, while Rojas earned an assist on the play for his first point in a Franklin Pierce uniform.

Graduate forward Ryan Ruffing (Westborough, Mass.) capped the scoring and put the match out of reach seven minutes later when he took a nice crossing pass from sophomore David Lima (Everett, Mass.) and slammed home a shot from three yards out for his fourth tally of the season. Lima picked up an assist on the play for his second of the season.

Graduate goalkeeper Jake Wright (Los Angeles, Calif.) made four saves to earn the shutout victory and run his record to 8-2 on the year. He has registered three shutout victories in the last four matches and five overall this season.

Franklin Pierce outshot the Chargers, 14-10, including getting four shotsfrom freshman Nico Mueller (Mannheim, Germany) and three from Ruffing. Anastasios Petridis made four saves in net for New Haven despite suffering the loss to fall to 4-5-1 on the campaign.

The Ravens return to action Wednesday when they play host to Merrimack at 7 p.m. on Sodexo Field.
