Casey Edward starts in goal and makes four saves
MANCHESTER, N.H. (October 10, 2012) – The Franklin
Pierce University women's soccer team watched as Saint Anselm
scored a pair of second-half goals just four minutes apart as the
Hawks pulled off a 2-1 come-from-behind win over the Ravens on
Wednesday afternoon at Melucci Field in Manchester, N.H. The Ravens
fell to 6-5-2 overall and 5-5-1 in the Northeast-10, while St.
A's improved to 3-6-3 and 2-5-3 in league play.
Graduate midfielder Aya
Noguchi (Tokyo, Japan) got Franklin Pierce on the board
first in the 39th minute when she collected a loose ball
at the top of the box, took a dribble and ripped a shot to the back
of the net for her third goal of the season.
Saint Anselm, which outshot
Franklin Pierce 21-12 in the contest, picked up its offensive pace
in the second half and kept chipping away at forcing a tie. The
hard work finally paid off in the 72nd minute when
Callie Millett struck home the first of her two goals in the match
when she took a crossing pass from Meagan Simon in the box and
slipped a shot past Ravens goalkeeper Katie Weldon
(Manchester, N.H.).
Millett struck again four minutes
later to put the Hawks on top 2-1. Just like the first goal,
Millett took a crossing pass in the box and buried the shot, as the
day's two markers were her first and second of the
season.
Weldon took the loss for Ravens in
net as she played the entire second half in falling to 0-2-1 on the
year. Senior Casey Edward (Marshfield, Mass.)
started in net for the Ravens and made four saves in 45 minutes of
action. Gabriella Primera made three saves for Saint Anselm and
improved to 3-6-2 on the season.
Franklin Pierce returns to action
Saturday when the Ravens travel to Syracuse, N.Y. to face Le Moyne
in a 12 p.m. kickoff.
