Talita Pereira Scores Twice to Lead Women's Soccer to a 3-2 Double OT Win at Le Moyne

Elizabeth Guimond scores first goal in a Franklin Pierce uniform

SYRACUSE, N.Y.. (October 13, 2012) – Junior forward Talita Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored two goals, including one in the second overtime, to lift the Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team to a 3-2 win over Le Moyne on Saturday in Syracuse, N.Y. The Ravens improved to 7-5-2 overall and 6-5-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Dolphins fell to 2-7-4 and 0-7-4 in league play.

It marked the second-straight match Pereira popped in a pair of goals as she also turned the trick in a 3-2 win over New Haven last Saturday in Rindge. Her two goals on this day were her sixth and seventh of the season, which is the second most on the team.

Pereira's second goal, which happened 4:35 into the second extra session, came about from a header sent in by freshman forward Hannah Weagle (Ipswich, Mass.), which she was able to collect, dribble in and beat the Le Moyne keeper with a shot to the upper portion of the net. It was Pereira's second match-winning goal of the season, while Weagle earned an assist on the play to push her team-leading point total to 23.

Pereira's heroics came after a furious rally by Le Moyne late in the match, as the Dolphins climbed out of a 2-0 hole to tie it with a pair of markers in a 12-minute span in the second half.

Le Moyne's first tally came in the 64th minute when Christie Morano took a pass from Lindsey Bakal and slipped a shot past Franklin Pierce goalie Katie Weldon (Manchester, N.H.). The Dolphins struck again in the 76th minute as Gabriele Ariola fired a strike from 25 yards out which beat Weldon to the lower left corner of the net.

Despite allowing those two goals, Weldon remained strong over the remaining 14 minutes of regulation and into overtime as she made nine saves in all to earn her first career victory and run her record to 1-2-1 on the year. She stopped four shots in the first overtime and followed with two more saves in the second OT before Pereira ended the match with her strike.

Franklin Pierce took a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute when junior back Elizabeth Guimond (Claremont, N.H.) scored her first goal in a Ravens uniform as she took a pass from sophomore Caroline Savasta (Salem, Mass.) and ripped a shot to the back of the net. Savasta picked up an assist on the play which was her third helper on the year and her ninth point overall.

The Ravens went up by two goals in the 57th minute when Pereira struck for her first marker, which came off a blast from 25 yards out to the top right corner of the net.

Le Moyne's Tori Corsaro took the loss in goal to fall to 2-7-4, despite making an impressive 10 saves. The Dolphins owned a 25-23 advantage in shots.

Franklin Pierce returns to action Tuesday when the Ravens play host to UMass-Lowell at 4 p.m. in Sodexo Field.
