WINCHENDON, Mass. (January
7, 2012) – Senior forward David Arduin posted a
natural hat trick in a span of 4:02 on Saturday night as SUNY
Geneseo posted an 8-0 victory over the Franklin Pierce University
men's ice hockey team in non-conference play at Jason Ritchie Ice
Arena. On the night, 14 different Geneseo players tallied at least
one point.
With the loss, Franklin Pierce
falls to 1-8-3 (1-2-1 Northeast-10), while SUNY Geneseo improves to
9-6-0 (4-4-0 SUNYAC). Arduin, a transfer from Division I
Quinnipiac, finished the two-game weekend series with five points
on four goals and an assist.
Though much of the first period
went without a goal, Geneseo never looked back after it opened the
scoring at 17:38 on the power play. Sophomore forward Zachary Vit
took a pass from senior defenseman Danny Scagnelli near the left
half-boards and sent a slapshot to the back of the net for his
ninth goal of the season, the eventual game-winner. Arduin would
get his night started with a pair of goals just 17 seconds apart
beginning just 33 seconds after the Vit goal. First, Arduin
stationed himself in front of the net and deflected a shot from the
point for his sixth of the year, then put away a wrister from the
left circle in transition to give the Knights a 3-0 advantage
heading into the locker room. Senior defenseman Jake Yard tallied
assists on both Arduin goals.
Arduin finished off his hat trick
just 2:13 into the second frame, when he found the gaping net on a
one-timer from the slot after a feed from behind the net by
sophomore forward Carson Schell.
After junior forward Ryan Bulach
jammed home a rebound to make it 5-0, he would pick up a helper as
well at 8:56 after sending the puck to senior forward Jonathan
Redlick. Redlick came off the left half-boards with the puck,
danced around a defenseman and backhanded the puck along the ice,
just inside the far post, to score his first goal of the
season.
Later in the second period,
freshman forward Zack Cavallini scored his first career goal and
Schell netted a power-play score to create the 8-0 final.
Sophomore goaltender Dave O'Brien
(Groton, Mass.) started in goal for Franklin Pierce and
ultimately took the loss (1-3-2) after making 14 saves in the first
period before being lifted from the game during the first
intermission. From there, junior Pat Dunn (Quincy,
Mass.) made seven saves and allowed three goals in the
first 8:56 of the second, while senior Ben Siok (Holden,
Mass.) stopped four of six shots over the remainder of the
frame before saving all 14 shots he saw in the third.
Junior goaltender Adrian Rubeniuk
stopped all 12 shots he faced to post his first career shutout and
pick up the win (4-3-0) between the pipes for SUNY Geneseo.
SUNY Geneseo posted a 47-12
advantage in shots on goal in the game and went 2-for-6 on the
power play. Franklin Pierce finished 0-for-1 with the
man-advantage.
The Ravens return to the ice on
Tuesday, Jan. 10, when they travel to Suffolk for a non-conference
contest. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Walter Brown
Rink in Boston, Mass. Franklin Pierce next plays at home on
Saturday, Jan. 28 against Assumption at 7:30 p.m.
