Ryan Dintaman has two-point evening (1 g, 1 a) for the
Ravens
BOXSCORE
RINDGE, N.H. (April 13, 2011) – The Franklin Pierce
University men's lacrosse team couldn't overcome a slow
start to the game and dropped a 7-4 decision to Saint
Michael's on Wednesday night at Sodexo Field in Rindge. The
Ravens fell to 3-7 overall and 1-6 in the Northeast-10, while the
Purple Knights improved to 5-4 and 4-1 in league play.
The Ravens found themselves
trailing, 7-1, heading into the fourth quarter, but they
didn't fold and tried to fight back to get into the contest.
Franklin Pierce was able to outscore the Purple Knights, 3-0, in
the final 15 minutes to make the game interesting. Junior attackman
Jimmy McInnis (Amherst, N.H.) tallied the
period's first goal a minute in as he took a feed from
sophomore attacker Brendan Cahill (Hollis, N.H.)
and slipped a shot past the St. Mike's goalkeeper to make it
7-2. Cahill was credited with an assist on the play as he was able
to get possession of the ball after he forced a St. Mike's
middie into a turnover while a clearing attempt was being
handled.
Senior midfielder Jack
Scanlan (Great Neck, N.Y.) notched the Ravens'
second goal of the quarter at the 7:48 mark when junior
Ryan Dintaman (Northfield, Mass.) fed him a pass
that he was able to fire past the catching net of goalie's
stick to make it 7-3. Dintaman tallied his own marker with just
under four minutes remaining in the game to pull the Ravens to
within three, but that was as close as they would get.
Saint Michael's held a 33-22
advantage in shots and forced the Ravens into 19 turnovers. The
Ravens, though, did hold a 9-5 advantage in face-offs.
Saint Michael's held
possession of the ball for most of the first half and built a 3-0
lead following one quarter of play. Pete Donnally tossed in the
first two goals for the Purple Knights, and then assisted on Saint
Michael's first goal of the second quarter to help put them
up 4-0.
The Purple Knights would eventually
build a 6-0 lead before the Ravens got on the board with 4:01 left
in the half as Scanlan tossed in a tally to trim the margin to five
goals. It was a man-up marker for the Ravens, and they had a chance
at another man-up goal in the closing seconds of the period, but
could not convert the score as time ran out.
Marty Vanzo scored the only goal of
the third quarter as he dumped in a tally for the Purple Knights
with just :45 left in the period to make it 7-1.
Franklin Pierce freshman goalie
Tim Izzo (Trumbull, Conn.) suffered the loss
despite making 13 saves. He fell to 3-7 on the season. St.
Mike's Chris Demairo earned the win in net as he made four
saves in 30 minutes of action in the first half.
Franklin Pierce returns to action
next Tuesday when the Ravens travel to Manchester to face Southern
New Hampshire at 7 p.m.
