Gilhuly wins at second singles for
Ravens
GARDEN CITY, N.Y.
(September 19, 2010) – Freshman Pat
Gilhuly picked up a 4-6, 7-2, 10-7 (tiebreak) win at
second singles, but the Franklin Pierce University men's tennis
team was defeated by Adelphi, 8-1, in Northeast-10 Conference play
at Adelphi on Sunday. With the loss, Franklin Pierce opens the
season at 0-1 (0-1 Northeast-10), while Adelphi improves to 1-1
(1-0 Northeast-10).
Gilhuly picked up the only point of
the day for the Ravens, with his tiebreaker win at second singles
against Adelphi sophomore Gaetan Georges. Earlier in the day,
Gilhuly teamed with senior Dan McDonough (Manchester,
N.H.) to nearly take another point at second doubles,
though the duo fell 8-5 at second doubles to Georges and Adelphi
senior Joe Carbone.
Four different Adelphi players were
victorious in both singles and doubles on Sunday, including Steven
Ferrantello, who dropped just one game on the afternoon. He teamed
with Leo Bruno to post an 8-0 shutout at third doubles before
picking up a 6-0, 6-1 win at sixth singles.
The Ravens return to action on
Tuesday, Sept. 21, when they travel to Stonehill for a Northeast-10
Conference match at 6 p.m. in Easton, Mass.
