Amanda Panaro scores lone goal for the Ravens
BOXSCORE
RINDGE, N.H. (September 15, 2010) – The No.
9-nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University women's soccer
team played 110:00 before finally settling for a 1-1 draw with
Saint Michael's on Wednesday night at Sodexo Field in Rindge.
The Ravens had their four-game winning streak snapped and moved to
4-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in Northeast-10 play, while the Purple
Knights moved to 1-2-2 and 0-1-2 in conference action.
Junior forward Amanda
Panaro (Rockland, Mass.) scored the Ravens' lone
goal as it came in the 43rd minute when she redirected a
crossing pass from Shona Franklin (Birmingham,
England) 10 yards out in front of the net.
It was Panaro's team and
conference-leading eighth of the season, while Franklin moved into
the team lead in assists with three.
The goal didn't rattle St.
Mike's as it started to push the play into Franklin
Pierce's side of the field during the initial stages of the
second half. The Purple Knights finally got the equalizer in the
69th minute when Teal Bryan notched her first goal of
the campaign as she scored off a scramble in front of the net. That
goal snapped Franklin Pierce's string of three-consecutive
shutouts.
Franklin Pierce, which held a 24-8
advantage in shots, including putting nine of those goal, tried to
fight back and retake the lead. However, Saint Michael's
settled down into its defensive zone and denied the Ravens
opportunities to string together a flurry of shots one after the
other.
Each team recorded a shot during
both overtime periods, but none could find the back of the net as
the contest ended in a tie. Franklin Pierce goalkeeper Jocelyn Leon
(Lenox, Mass.) ultimately made three saves to move her record to
4-0-1, while SMC goalkeeper Brittany Cocozza recorded eight saves
to move her record to 1-2-2.
Franklin Pierce hits the road for
two-straight games, beginning this Saturday with a trip to
Manchester to face Southern New Hampshire at 1 p.m.
